This graceful design is on silk. It has been taken from a bolt of fabric dating back to the 1950s. The design is of plum blossom (ume) and chrysanthemum (kiku). In Japan the Plum Blossom is known as "The Flower of Peace" and has a very important place in Japanese literature and its symbolizes fidelity, optimism, joy and long life. A white chrysanthemum symbolizes truth and loyal love. Background colour is brick red - not too bright, with a faint damask effect throughout. The blossoms are ivory and two shades of red, the chrysanthemums have red centres, outlined in pure gold. The branches are amazing - showing bark browns, golden rod, and moss blue/green.
